Tour Busses

One thing I have quickly gotten used to is the number of tour busses. There must be thousands of them across the country running tour groups from town to town and on day trips to places of interest.

Yesterday we climbed the old bell tower in the Trinidad Museum. To get to the top we had to climb what looked like a rickety wooden spiral staircase and a final ladder-like final section, not unlike the access to our Casa. But it was worth it for the views across the town.

We made a point of getting there early - 'go early before the tour busses arrive' - was the advice and good advice it was as I can't begin to imagine the chaos with groups of 40 visitors all trying to ascend or descend the spiral stairs.

When we went snorkelling the reef at Playa Giron we also got there early 'before the tour busses arrived' to get the place to ourselves.

So tour busses have been an unwelcome surprise for me. Or I should say the brand spanking new, fully logoed sparkly clean 'Transtur' busses have been a surprise. And there are so many of them! I didn't expect Cuba's tourism industry to be so organised and so far reaching, and I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get here before this all happened.
